Sydney Opera House

Sydney Opera House

When I think of Australia, I think of the Sydney Opera House.
Sydney Opera House is the landmark of Australia because there are a lot of history behind it. It took 16 years to build.Constructed between 1957 and 1973, is a masterpiece of modern architectural design, engineering and construction technology in Australia.

When I arrived Sydney, I traveled to the Sydney Opera House. I felt like I arrived Sydney, it may because Sydney Opera House represents modern and creativity of Sydney. The Sydney Opera House is located in in the central harbor hub of the CBD. You can enjoy food and bar around there. Every year, Sydney will have the Vivid festival of light, music and ideas. Every building will full of light and music that you will never bored! Last year, I visited Vivid festival with my friends, there were many people but we really enjoyed the music, ideas and light around us.

Vivid festival

Because the Opera House is located in the central harbor of the CBD, so there are a lot of best restaurants near Opera House such as  Opera bar, Opera kitchen, and Ribs and Burgers the Rock, etc. Moreover, there is the Rocks markets where you can find fashion, food, and accessories by local designers. It is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 5pm.

The Rocks Markets
After you enjoy food, fashion and Opera House, you can walk through to Royal Botanic Garden Sydney where is next to Opera House. In the garden, you will enjoy the flowers, trees, animals, and cafes, if you want to relax and refresh yourself. The Opera House, the Rocks Markets, and Royal Botanic Garden are the answer!!

Canberra

Where is the capital of Australia?

When I arrived Sydney, I thought Sydney is the capital of Australia. It was wrong because Canberra is the capital of Australia!!! The city is located at the northern end of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Some people may have a question that why Sydney is not the capital of Australia. The answer is because there was some conflict between Melbourne and Sydney. They felt that they should be the capital. Thus, the government decided Canberra to became the capital because it is halfway between Sydney and Melbourne (please correct me if I am wrong). Every year Canberra will have flower festival or known as 'Floriade', located in Canberra's Commonwealth Park. Last year, I traveled to Canberra with my friends. Canberra is peaceful and beautiful city.

We rented a car to visit Canberra, it was one day trip. We went out from Sydney around 9 am. and arrived Canberra around 2-3pm. Before we go to Floriade, we visited Cockington Green Gardens. It was a beautiful place, located in Canberra’s Gold Creek Village. We spend around 1-2 hours there. It is worth to visit!

After that we arrived the Floriade festival, it is not far from Cockington Green Gardens. There was a lot of people. So, it will be better to arrive early, then you can find the parking. First of all, we bought the ticket, please do not forget student ID because you will get discount for it. There was a lot of activities to enjoy such as music, food, flower, and comedian shows. We took a lot of picture of flower, enjoy music, and food.

The Floriade festival will run from 16 September to 15 October in this year. This event may suitable to someone who love flower and music. Importantly, do not forget to bring student ID (if you have) and sweater.

See you next trip!!

Hyams Beach Road Trip

Hyams Beach is a small beach located on the southern shores of Jervis Bay, in the City of Shoalhaven. This beach is a perfect getaway from the busy streets of Sydney to relax and reconnect with nature in this beautiful sanctuary.

My friends and I embarked on a roadtrip to Hyams Beach where we rented a beach house and enjoyed the serene landscape for three days! The beach house was conveniently located opposite of the beach and had an open space design which allowed a lot of sunlight and breeze to flow in.

Some activities which we did during our stay was going on a coastal walk from Jervis Bay to Hyams Beach which had some of the whitest sands rimmed by sparkling blue waters, it was truly a mesmerising site! We also went scuba diving as the waters was swallow and swam in the crystal blue waters that is perfect for young kids as the waves are gentle with swallow waters. There is plenty of trees which provide adequate shelter and is home to many beautiful birds such as parrots!

If you plan of travelling to this beautiful beach, be sure to book a beach house to experience waking up to the sunrise and the free flowing air that comes through the open windows. The beach house is perfect for large group of friends or even for couples who would like to indulge in a private getaway!

Hyams Beach does not attract a lot of tourists, therefore is a perfect getaway where the only sounds are the birds whistling and the waves hitting the shore. I recommend everyone visit this beautiful destination for relaxing and reconnecting with nature!

Hyams Beach

See you next time :)

Perisher Valley!

Get to know me!

As Lana mentioned in our first blog, we're a group of girls who love to travel, experience and explore the beautiful country that we live in, Australia.

Although we all live in different parts of Sydney, we all have one thing in common; Our love to travel. That being said, our differences in geography has meant that we all have unique experiences which we would not only like to share with one another, but also with you!

So let me give you a bit of background on myself and an area of interest!

My name is Haya (yep, pronounced just like Outkasts Hey Ya!). One of the gifts we often take for granted is the reward of being able to travel and connect to the beautiful country we call home, growing up I was always intrigued by the beauty of nature; whether it be the tropics, rainforests, caves or mountain tops, I was always mesmerized by the beauty of the world we live in! My passion since has only grown!

As a hobby I enjoy spending my weekends with friends to explore and appreciate nature, it is not only refreshing but has definitely helped me understand the history, culture and beauty of places.

I have travelled many places around Sydney and Australia itself, but still have not yet travelled to Western Australia or Tasmania!

Perisher Valley

A trip I love to do each year is to go down to Perisher Valley during the winter months. If you have not experienced snow in Australia, there is no better place to visit then Perisher Valley.

I know it sounds very cliché, but ever heard "It’s all about the Journey… not the destination"? Travelling to perisher definitely justifies this, but to a certain degree (we really are travelling to reach out destination).

When on the road to Perisher Valley, as you enter the town of Jindabyne you will start to see the beauty of snow covered on the mountain tops, so serene and beautiful it doesn’t seem real! One of the greatest sceneries by far however is Lake Jindabyne, which is surrounded by the Town. The lake is truly large and is definitely break-taking in its form.

If the Journey wasn’t enough to get you excited, reaching Perisher Valley will definitely have you jumping with excitement! During the winter months it is genuinely quite crowded, however this only adds to the fun and excitement of the place! If there are large crowds its definitely a worth while experience!

There are many things which you can do! If you are not confident skiing and snow boarding, there are always toboggans which are just as fun! You consume your day making snowmen, having snow ball fights, skiing down the slopes and most importantly spending time with friends and family such an incredible place! The air is so refreshing and the snow flakes which fall onto your face make it even more worthwhile.

It is important to be prepared for the weather! Hiring or buying snowing gear is a must, if you are looking to go during peak winter season i.e. around June/July be ready for plenty of snow fall and do not underestimate how cold it may get! But remember, as you move around and heat up you will completely forget about the cold!

Travelling to Perisher Valley from Sydney takes approximately 6 Hours. What I like to do with my friends/family is to leave before sun rises and head straight to the Valley! After a long day of enjoyment, it is often too difficult and tiring to drive 6 hours back to sydney so we drive 3hrs to Canberra where we stay overnight in a hotel/motel and then leave in the morning with only a 3 hour drive back! This means that we are well rested and can take our time. Only the way back to Sydney from Canberra we definitely take our time to also explore the City of Canberra!

Melbourne

Have you ever been to Melbourne? If not, let me tell you how beautiful Melbourne is.
Melbourne is the city of the Australian state of Victoria. Distance from Sydney to Melbourne is 714 kilometers. I took an airplane from Sydney to Melbourne around 1 hour,23 minutes. In this trip, I traveled with my dad and my aunt. This is our first time to travel outside Sydney. So excited!!

After we arrived Melbourne Airport, we rented a car. We traveled to Great Ocean Road, Royal Exhibition Building, Parliament House, Yara River, Puffing Billy, Sovereign hill, and city tour. I spend 4 days in Melbourne.

The Great Ocean Road
Parliament House
City tour (a tram)

Puffing Billy where I would recommend you to go, if you love nature and river side. It is not far from the city, I drove around 1-2 hours. It is worth to go!!! While you are on the train, you will enjoy the forest around you. I spend a half day in there, so you should go there in the morning. Another place that you must visit which is Great Ocean Road, but it is quite far from the city. However, it is really beautiful ocean, don't miss it. The one thing that I also love Melbourne that is a tram. In Melbourne, you will save a lot of transportation cost because tram is free. You can walk or use the tram to city tour. Melbourne city is beautiful and unique. If you have ever been to Melbourne, you will fall in love like me. I will visit there again for sure!!!

Finally, this is just a part of my travel. Wherever you visit, you will get different experiences and memories. Melbourne is full of history and nature. If you have an opportunity to visit, you should go because the city is fabulous!!

The Blue Mountains

About Me:
My name is Thi Tram and I love creating memories with my friends and family. This blog is part of a group assignment at Macquarie University and was the perfect opportunity to allow my group members and I to connect to something we are all interest in, travelling! My star sign is a Leo and it fits me perfectly as Leos are adventurous and love having a good time.

The Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains is located in New South Wales, Australia, and is listed as a World Heritage Site. Over the weekend, I traveled to the Blue Mountains with my cousins from America to explore this mountainous region, the unique eucalyptus plantation, and the rich Aboriginal heritage.
Our day began in the early morning as we drove approximately 50 kilometres from our starting location, Sydney, to the Blue Mountains. Once we arrived, we embarked a hiking route which would eventually lead us to the Three Sisters.
On our hike, we saw various European settlement remains (third picture of my collage) as well as an antique train system which aided the early settlers with transportation. The Blue Mountains has a rich Aboriginal history with the Three Sisters part of an Aboriginal DreamTime Story. During our trail, we saw various Aboriginal culture appreciation with various artworks spread out along our walk (Middle picture of my collage). The artworks looked beautiful and was definitely something to remember. The Blue Mountains is also home to a diverse range of Eucalyptus trees, this is a native flora to Australia. The tall eucalyptus trees provided plenty of shade and was home to over 400 fauna inhabitants at this site.

This picture is my cousin and I walking along one of the various hiking trails the Blue Mountain offers.

This is a picture of me facing the vast mountainous region. The Blue Mountain expands over 220 kilometres!

Overall, this travel adventure was amazing and allowed me to explore and see the history of the Blue Mountains. I would recommend everyone traveling to the Blue Mountains as there is various activities to suit everyones needs.
Ps. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen as the hiking trails will tire you out!
Until next time, take care and enjoy life!

Hello, Bonjour, G'day :)

Our first blog... and I’m not sure how to start this, so bear with me.

Welcome to the sisterhood of travels. A blog of exploration, entertainment, insert more descriptive words here, and fun?! We hope you enjoy these posts as much as we enjoy exploiting a group assessment task to explore the world around us, Australia. This blog will consist of posts about many different places around Sydney and other parts of Australia, whether it be bars, touristy landmarks, cafes, theatres and so on. (To be fair, whilst writing this I am finding it hard to explain exactly what will be posted on this blog, as there are five writers and I don't know about them, but I certainly have no clue as to where I am going to go explore as of yet).

But back to the point. All five of us (who you’ll come to know through our posts) are avid about the world, our little world of Sydney, as well as the bigger world that we meet through travel. We love exploring Australia's community and going to random destinations that others have deemed worth it. But real talk, Uni life can get hella boring and stressful, and when we were asked to create a blog about anything we want, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to write about places and activities and use this assessment as an excuse to go out every weekend (or whenever we can).

I’d like to say that we take pride in exploring Sydney, and Australia, and we hope that this blog might inspire you to take a step back and explore the world around you too.

That being said, now I’d like to briefly introduce you to our team, who are a group of unique girls with many differences. I hope that these differences make our blog stand out in an intriguing way and help us gain followers who may have some similar interests to us. So here we are;

Thi
19 years old, one hobby of hers is that she enjoys exploring different cuisines. (Maybe we’ll get some great restaurants on here that I *coughs* we can try out). Somewhere Thi would love to visit is Japan.

Haya
Haya is 20 years old. She says “I love to travel because I enjoy experiencing new places and different cultures.” A place she had been meaning to travel to is Japan.

Nat

Nat is 20 years old, and some of her hobbies include exercising and photography. Somewhere she would love to visit is Paris.

Kavene
She is 20 years old, and some of her hobbies include: eating out somewhere nice and enjoying and making memories with her friends. She says that “there’s no country that I wouldn't want to go to.” (And frankly, I can agree with her on that!)

Lana
Hi, I’m Lana and I’m 18 years old, (very creative opening sentence I know). A few of my hobbies would include; acting, singing, dancing, musical theatre in general, and Spiderman comics. Somewhere I would love to visit is Amsterdam for sure. The gondolas, the Anne Frank Museum, Van Gogh museum, the architecture. *sighs* One day.

The only way I (Lana) eat pizza.

And that is it for our first post, I think. While putting this together I realised that I am once again the baby of the group. This happens to me a lot! But anyway, we’d love if you want to comment somewhere in the world you’d like to visit, whether that be on this post, or to our twitter, which is @sisterhoodblogs. Be sure to follow us on twitter too, and turn on our notifications so you know when we will be posting!

That’s all for now, and until next time.
